Allegheny National Forest Announces OHM Trail Closures

Allegheny National Forest Visitors BureauBRADFORD, PA – September 15, 2017 – The Allegheny National Forest will be closing all motorized trails for the summer season effective Monday, September 25, 2017. However, two trails will temporarily close starting the week of September 18.


  • Penoke OHM Trail will temporarily close to complete restoration trail work starting September 18. However, the trail will be open during the weekends. The scheduled closed dates are: September 18-21, with the trails reopening September 22. “This work is made possible through the ATV/OHM trail permit sales on the ANF,” said Zone Recreation Officer Josh Bridge.   • Marienville ATV Trail will temporarily close from September 18 through September 22 to complete a stream restoration project on the East Branch of Spring Creek. This project is designed to reduce flooding on the trail and to improve aquatic habitat. The trail should reopen on Saturday, September 23. The Marienville Ranger District will reopen some trails and roads for two special events in October:

  • September 30 – October 1, several Forest Service roads and portions of the Marienville Bike Trail will be open for the Marienville Volunteer Fire Department’s Tour De Forest fundraising event. Roads will be open at 12:01 a.m. September 30 through 6:00 p.m. October 1. Access will be restricted to registered event participants. More information on this event can be found at:
  • Enjoy the fall colors! The Timberline and Marienville ATV trails will be open for enthusiasts to enjoy the fall colors over the Columbus Day holiday. Trails will be open from 8:00 a.m. on Friday, October 6 until midnight on Monday, October 9.

“The Allegheny National Forest is so beautiful in the fall and we’re pleased that so many people want to come to the forest to view the colors,” said Marienville District Ranger Rob Fallon. “Reopening the ATV trails during this time will provide more opportunities for people to enjoy their national forest.” Fallon also wanted to remind visitors that there are hunters in the woods at this time of the year and to use caution.

In support of Tour De Forest and leaf peepers, the Marienville District office will be open on September 30, October 1, and October 7- 9 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information about the ATV trail system or the fall trail events, please contact the Marienville District office at 814.927.6628.

The winter ATV trail season should open on December 20 if temperatures are cold enough to freeze the ground. The only trails that will be open for the winter season are Rocky Gap, Timberline and Marienville ATV trails.
