BRADFORD, PA – June 1, 2016 – The Allegheny National Forest is celebrating National Get Outdoors day by hosting an outdoor adventure day at Beaver Meadows Recreation Area on the Marienville Ranger District. ANF staff will be available from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. to lead a variety of activities including: kayaking (a limited number of kayaks and canoes will be available); hiking; campfire building; bird watching and other activities.
Beaver Meadows Recreation Area is located on Forest Road 282, four miles north of Marienville on North Forest Street. “Beaver Meadows offers a unique kayaking experience, several hiking trails and a great picnic area,” said District Ranger Rob Fallon. “This is a great opportunity for everyone to come out and enjoy their national forest.”
Get Outdoors Day is the third event of five fee waiver days for 2016. On fee waiver days, there is no charge to use most of the Allegheny’s open camping and day use sites. There are some exceptions, however. Fees will not be waived for any of the Willow Bay Cabins or for campsite utilities (electric, water and sewage) at Willow Bay or Red Bridge. In addition, fees will not be waived for reservations made through the National Recreation Reservation Service. The remaining 2016 events are:
- June 11: National Get Outdoors Day, a day when federal agencies, nonprofit organizations and the recreation industry encourages healthy, outdoor activities.
- 24: National Public Lands Day, the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer effort in support of public lands
- 11: Veteran’s Day, commemorates the end of World War I, and pays tribute to all military heroes past and present.
