BRADFORD, PA – September 20, 2016 – The Allegheny National Forest will be closing all ATV trails for the summer season at midnight on Sunday, September 25, 2016. However, some of the Marienville Ranger District’s trails will reopen in October for two special events:
- On October 1-2, several Forest Service Roads and portions of the Marienville Bike Trail will be open for the Marienville Volunteer Fire Department’s Tour De Forest fundraising event. Access will be restricted to participants who are registered for the event.
- Enjoy the fall colors! The Timberline and Marienville ATV trails will be open for enthusiasts to enjoy the fall colors over the Columbus Day holiday. Trails will be open from 8:00 a.m. on Friday, October 7 until midnight on Monday, October 10.
“The Allegheny National Forest is so beautiful in the fall and we’re pleased that so many people want to come to the forest to view the colors,” said Marienville District Ranger Rob Fallon. “Reopening the ATV trails during this time, will provide more opportunities for people to enjoy their national forest.” Fallon also wanted to remind visitors that there are hunters in the woods at this time of the year and to use caution.
In support of Tour De Forest and leaf peepers, the Marienville District office will be open on October 1, 2, 8, and 9 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information about the ATV trail system or the fall trail events, please contact the Marienville District office at 814.927.6628.
The winter ATV trail season should open on December 20 if temperatures are cold enough to freeze the ground. The only trails that will be open for the winter season are Rocky Gap, Timberline and Marienville ATV trails.
