The historic Kinzua Viaduct in Pennsylvania, originally built from iron, was the highest and longest in the world at the time of construction, measuring 301 feet high and 2,053 feet long.

The Kinzua Bridge State Park in McKean County, Pennsylvania has always been a historic tourist attraction. But eight years ago, restoration had begun on the bridge when a tornado toppled portions of the structure.

A tornado in July 2003 toppled the midsection of the Kinzua Viaduct and virtually knocked out the area’s major tourist attraction. Mother Nature won this battle, but the ingenuity of man has overcome that setback with the construction of the Kinzua Sky Walk– a pedestrian walkway built atop the very towers that once supported the historic Kinzua Bridge near Mt. Jewett.

Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Secretary Richard J. Allan today invited visitors to a new experience at Kinzua Bridge State Park – a stroll out into Kinzua Gorge on a pedestrian walkway with a glass-bottom observation area. Kinzua Bridge State Park is one of DCNR’s key investment areas in the Pennsylvania Wilds and along PA Route 6 heritage corridor.
