BRADFORD, PA – April 6, 2016 – The Friends of Allegheny Wilderness and the Allegheny National Forest Chapter of the North Country Trail Association are planning to clear the Deer Lick Spur of the Minister Creek trail on the weekend of April 9 and 10. This trail still has many blown down trees across it as a result of a windstorm in June 2015.
They will meet at the Minister Creek parking lot on State Route 666 at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, hike in and work on the Deer Lick trail all day Saturday, camp at the Deer Lick area Saturday night, work some more during the day on Sunday and hike out sometime Sunday afternoon. Volunteers should plan to bring their own food, water, gloves, and sturdy hiking boots, and camping gear if they plan to camp out. Day workers are also welcome! If possible, volunteers are asked to bring their own tools such as axes, loppers, and pruning saws.
