Pitt-Bradford to Hold Zydeco Concert and Mardi Gras Party

Allegheny National Forest Visitors BureauBRADFORD, PA – January 30, 2018 – Zydeco artist Terrance Simien will be bringing his Zydeco Experience to Bradford Friday (Feb. 2) to entertain and educate young and old.

After a morning performance of Creole for Kids for area schoolchildren, the Grammy Award-winning artist will heat up the Bromeley Family Theater at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford with a Mardi Gras concert.

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. in Blaisdell Hall, but the party begins at 5:30 p.m. with a family-friendly Mardi Gras celebration in the KOA Speer Electronics Lobby. The party features mocktails, Louisiana sweet tea and snacks and, for those of age, a beer tasting by Devil’s Backbone brewery, an award-winning craft brewery from Lexington, Va.

Party and entertainment are included in the cost, which is $25 for adults and $10 for students.

Simien has performed more than 7,000 concerts in more than 45 countries introducing Louisiana’s unique Zydeco music to the world. Zydeco is a blend of blues, rhythm and blues, native rhythms and Louisiana Creole tradition. It features accordion, fiddle, drums, guitar, bass guitar and washboard.

As an ambassador for Zydeco, Simien has performed as a regular at the New Orleans Jazz Festival and been featured at the Bern Jazz festival. His music can be heard in commercials, documentaries and feature films ranging from Chevy’s “Heartbeat of America” to Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog” and the Dennis Quaid New Orleans crime drama “The Big Easy.”

National Public Radio listeners may have heard him on the World Café, Mountain Stage or House of Blues Radio Hour. He has also been featured by the BBC, CBC, Voice of America and Radio Free France.

While touring, he has shared studio and stage with Robert Palmer, Stevie Wonder, Los Lobos, Taj Mahal, Alan Toussaint, Paul Simon and the Dave Matthews Band. In 2005, he was the first Zydeco artist to perform in Cuba for the U.S. State Department, and in 2006, Carnegie Hall presented Simien and the Zydeco Experience band in Mali as part of its unique Global Encounters program.
