Pennsylvania’s Sixth Most Haunted Place – Resident Ghost

Exterior view of the museum
McKean County Historical Society – Smethport, PA
The original jailhouse on 502 West King Street in Smethport was renovated in 2003 as the Old Jail Museum to showcase the history of McKean County. It is ranked by Pursuits Magazine as Pennsylvania’s sixth most haunted place.

Visit the dungeon, explore the displays, shop the general store, or spend time doing genealogical research in the record room. Special events held throughout the year — call for event schedule.

Groups welcome with prior arrangement. Schedule an educational session in the lecture room. Dick Robertson, our resident expert on railroads, will delight your group with stories of the early pioneer days in McKean County when timber, oil, and railroading were king!
