RGS Allegheny Chapter Announces “Habitat Days”

Allegheny National Forest Visitors BureauBRADFORD, PA – April 11, 2018 – The Allegheny Chapter of the Ruffed Grouse Society announces ‘Habitat Days’ where any hunter or bird watcher that wants to “give back” to the resource can help for two to four hours on a habitat project.  All you have to do is call 814-512-2101 or email wlhab@windstream.net if any of the dates in this news release mesh with your schedule.

The habitat work this year involves planting alder in wetland sites, planting shrubs for food (a soft mast) inside already constructed deer-deterrent cribs, or working on fencing to keep deer from eating seedlings planted for wildlife.  This year’s habitat work takes place at two sites:  Hancock Forest Management lands east of Clermont and Collins Pine Company lands west of the Bradford Airport.  All of these sites are open to hunters and wildlife enthusiasts.

The following days are Habitat Days:

  • Sunday, 4/15
  • Monday, 4/16, thru Sunday, 4/22

Call 814-512-2101 or email wlhab@windstream.net if you can work anywhere from two to four hours on any of these days.  Transportation can be provided if needed.  Wear boots, a hat, and long pants.  Water and drinks are provided.  Tools will be provided by the Ruffed Grouse Society.

Give back to wildlife the easy way!  Call today.

The Ruffed Grouse Society was founded in 1961 to promote and increase awareness of young forest management and to maintain suitable habitat that supports healthy populations of ruffed grouse, woodcock, deer and many songbird species that depend on forest diversity to survive and prosper.
