2020 Eagle Watch at Kinzua Dam
Polish your binoculars and get ready for eagle viewing near Kinzua Dam. Numerous eagles spend winter along the Allegheny River and Reservoir, and this is prime time to spot them, as our country's national symbol perches and flies high above the trees.

Eagle Watch Day, held at Big Bend Recreation Area, is a great opportunity for nature lovers interested in seeing American Bald Eagles in the wild. A popular resting area for eagles that appreciate the unfrozen water conditions, this area offers exceptional views of the birds' temporary stopovers in vicinity of Kinzua Dam.

In addition to wildlife observation, activities include an audio-visual program detailing eagle restoration efforts presented by Eric McBride, Pennsylvania Game Warden, and a geomeet - "Caching with Eagles" - organized by Kinzua Cachers. Several temporary caches will be set up around the recreation area.

Three sites will be open for public viewing and learning about America's national bird: Big Bend Visitor Center, Riverside Watchable Wildlife Trail / Viewing Platform (located along Allegheny River tailwaters), and Kinzua Dam Overlooks. Sites will be staffed, and spotting scopes will be available to better observe the awesome eagles. No pre-registration is required, and roadway / interior access to the dam will not be available.

For more information call (814) 726- 0661 or visit www.facebook.com/kinzuadam.

Bringing Nature Home, Pfeiffer Nature Center
We humans are always being told "you are what you eat." Simple enough, right? To be healthy you must eat healthy. The thing is humans have been able to create or manufacture foods which are super tasty but unfortunately not always good for us. Trying to find a healthy and happy balance can be a challenge, but the good news is that humans have lots and lots of choices as we have the ability to eat many different types of food. This is not the case for lots of other living beings on the planet. For many animals, finding nutritious foods which they are able to eat can sometimes be quite difficult. Entomologist and Wildlife Ecologist Doug Tallamy brilliantly discusses why this is a problem for all of nature in his book "Bringing Nature Home - How You Can Sustain Wildlife with Native Plants."

Pfeiffer Nature Center is hosting a book club style get together for those who have either read the book or are interested in the topic. This program is free and open to the public.

Register by Feb. 13th or at the time of the program. Sign-up on the web at www.pfeiffernaturecenter.org or contact their office at (716) 933-0187.
