Update from the Allegheny National Forest District Ranger Station. Longhouse National Scenic Byway will close to through traffic starting on August 5, 2024 between Dewdrop and Jakes Rocks Road for 14 days. Plan accordingly.
The contractor is currently working south of Kiasutha (between the Rec Area and Mud Lick Road). Road is open to thru traffic but one lane may be closed and drivers should expect up to 15 minute delays.
Starting July 23, the contractor will also begin patching the recent culvert replacements between SR 321 and the Kiasutha Rec Area. There may be minor delays along this stretch of road.

Twin Lakes Recreation Area, located just 8 miles southeast of Kane, PA on State Route 321, is home to the Black Cherry National Recreational Trail, fishing pier, offers visitors camping, picnicking, fishing, swimming and exploring local trails. Mill Creek offers native trout fishing and can be accessed along Mill Creek Trail. Thanks to the Friends of Twin Lakes ANF, this hidden gem is popular for its swimming beaches and lakeside fishing piers. Make your camping reservation by calling Laura at 814-389-3019.
Black Cherry Interpretive Trail is a 1.6 mile trail beginning and ending near the lower campground loop. The two loops, one 1 mile loop and one .4 mile loop, circle the campground. The Black Cherry Trail also makes up the eastern end of the Twin Lakes Trail . The trail will take you through a valley with a small stream, that you will cross at one point. The Twin Lakes Trail connects to both the Mill Creek Trail and Brush Hollow Trail systems.
Twin Lakes was once the site of factory buildings, stores and row houses owned by the McKean Chemical Company which made wood alcohol. When McKean Chemical Company closed in the 1920s, the US Forest Service acquired the property.
In 1936, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) constructed the present dam on Hoffman Run, creating the swimming impoundment. They built the lower campground, picnic area, pavilion and bathhouse.
