Planning a trip to the Allegheny National Forest next week? Check out this festival on your way. The 23rd Annual Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous in Ridgway, PA will be held April 24-27. This year the Rendezvous will feature over 100 carvers from around the world. There will be live carving, live music, crafters, beer/wine. Admission for adults will be $5.
Grab your friends, join Trail Association of the McKean & Elk Divide for a fun day of biking, hiking and good times, Saturday, April 27 in the PA Wilds of McKean County.

If you haven`t had a sandwhich from The Grocery Stretcher - New in downtown Bradford, you haven`t really lived, friend. Their fresh sliced meats on super fresh bread, fancy cheese and a little magic makes for a sandwhich that makes you say, "that`s the best sandwhich I`ve had in a long time." Signs of Spring are visible across the Allegheny National Forest region! Trees are flowering, grass is growing, black bears are out and about, and spring migration of our feathered friends is imminent. Whether you are a casual birder or a more seasoned observer, the Allegheny National Forest is an amazing location for your next birding adventure.
Here are the top birding spots in McKean County according to eBird: The Kinzua Bridge State Park, Willow Bay Recreation Area, Shawmut Trail and Hamlin Lake Park, Red Bridge Recreation Area, Sugar Bay, and Marilla Reservoir.
Other suggested birding spots in the Allegheny National Forest are the Longhouse National Scenic Drive, Big Bend Biding Overlook, Buzzard Swamp, Beaver Meadows Recreation Area, Tidioute Riverside RecTrek Trail, Buckaloons Recreation Area and Hearts Content Recreation Area.

The following recommendation is not for the faint of heart, fun-haters or grump sticks. This trail is for the see-food lovers, chunk-a-dunks, glass half empty people. Start out with a homemade cinnamon roll at Jewett`s Kaffe Sol in Mt. Jewett, then head to Kane and hit up Bells Meat & Poultry for a variety of griller. Side bar...the chicken griller is amazing. We don`t want you to be parched, so head to CJ Spirits for their leek vodka, Logyard Brewing their Sour Cherry Raspberry is the ticket,, grab dinner at Table 105, crab stuffed salmon and apple crumble cheesecake is a must. If you haven`t quit yet, venture over to Flickerwood Wine Cellars and Cocktail Lounge for their blackberry dessert wine.
Advice from Trail Central...make sure you have a designated driver. If you need a designated eater and sipper, we`re in.
Trail Central means miles of scenic trails in the ANF Region and McKean County, PA. It means eyes to the sky at Timberdoodle Flats Interpretive Birding Trail. Did you know in 1881, the Bradford Oil Field produced an incredible 83% of the United States total oil output; over 90,000 wells were drilled in Bradford, PA? The @Penn Brad Oil Museum preserves the philosophy and spirit of a historic oil community. You will experience the boom times of the world’s first billion dollar oil field. Tour an oil lease house, then plan a walking tour along the nearby Main Street of Bradford’s National Historic District to view the eclectic architecture of the community built by the Oil Baron’s during the early 1900’s.

The 697 streams and 129 lakes across Pennsylvania have been stocked with 4 million trout in anticipation of the season opening April 6. Anglers 16 years of age and older must have a valid Pennsylvania fishing license and trout permit. Our friends at Sportsman`s Outlet In Bradford and Field Street Boots in Kane can hook you up with your license and permit. We have dispatched experts to the scene, but according to reports loud howl sounds have been heard coming from the base of the Sky Walk. Although we are unable to confirm the sightings, we received this photo reportedly of an unknown figure attempting to climb the steel columns. If you see Sasquatch, tell him hello from Trail Central.
