Hike 100 Miles to Commemorate 100 Years

Come join us in celebrating 100 years of growth and adventure on the Allegheny National Forest by hiking 100 miles. The Centennial Hiking Challenge will take you to over 100 miles of the best and most beautiful trails we offer. Whether you want to take a peaceful nature walk on a flat, established trail, or trek through a virtually untouched wilderness area far from the noise and congestion of town, these trails all have something unique to offer.

Log the date, trail name and miles hiked. When you complete 100 miles bring your hiking log to the Allegheny National Forest Visitors Bureau or any of the ANF Ranger offices to receive commemorative items, while supplies last. The hiking challenge ends on September 24, 2024.

ANF Centennial GeoTrail
28 ANF Centennial Geocaches will be placed throughout the Allegheny National Forest. (McKean, Warren, Elk, & Forest Counties) Find at least 20 cashes and write down the code word to receive and ANF Centennial Souvenir Token. Passports are free and can be obtained at any ANF office locations or by downloading & printing your own. Tracking available by geocaching.com

ATV Trails Open for Holiday Weekend
ATV/OHM trails will remain closed through the fall, with the following exceptions:

The Marienville and Timberline trails will be open for a holiday weekend to allow
riders an opportunity to enjoy the autumn foliage. Trails will open at 8:00 a.m.,
on Friday, October 6, and close at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, October 9. The
Timberline Trailhead will open Thursday, October 5 to accommodate riders
camping for the weekend.

Riding the ATV/OHM trails requires a permit. Permits are valid through the end of the calendar year. The 2023 ATV/OHM permit cost, mail-in forms, vendors, and directions for electronic submissions can be found under Recreation Passes and Permits on the forest website.

Silent Retreat, Ludlow
  "Silence In Community" may seem like an opposing concept, but sharing the intensity of this extended silent retreat with others will deepen and expand the experience. We will begin and end with community building, inviting God to fill the silence in between. Participants will also meet with a trained Spiritual Director.

Fall Antique Show & Sawmill Run
Antique vendors selling a wide variety of items; sawmill demonstration on Saturday (ONLY), and birch still and historic trade demonstrations all weekend; food available for purchase. Northern PA typically reaches peak fall foliage conditions around this time so the forests surrounding the museum will (hopefully) be displaying some rich and beautiful colors.

Fall Foliage at Sprague's Maple Farms

Pioneer Day
Staff will be making apple cider the old fashioned way and will welcome guests of all ages to lend a hand. There will be free samples, so join in for this great family friendly activity. There will also be a hickory syrup cooking demonstration, bush-crafts and archery demonstrations, a walking stick carving demonstration and live bluegrass music.

Intro to Archery
Practice your archery skills in a safe and fun environment! We will cover necessary safety procedures of shooting a bow, as well as the technical skills involved in hitting a target. Target and bows will be provided. This program is free and open to the public. Meet on the eastern side of the building.
