Hike 100 Miles to Commemorate 100 Years

Come join us in celebrating 100 years of growth and adventure on the Allegheny National Forest by hiking 100 miles. The Centennial Hiking Challenge will take you to over 100 miles of the best and most beautiful trails we offer. Whether you want to take a peaceful nature walk on a flat, established trail, or trek through a virtually untouched wilderness area far from the noise and congestion of town, these trails all have something unique to offer.

Log the date, trail name and miles hiked. When you complete 100 miles bring your hiking log to the Allegheny National Forest Visitors Bureau or any of the ANF Ranger offices to receive commemorative items, while supplies last. The hiking challenge ends on September 24, 2024.

28 ANF Centennial Geocaches will be placed throughout the Allegheny National Forest. (McKean, Warren, Elk, & Forest Counties) Find at least 20 cashes and write down the code word to receive and ANF Centennial Souvenir Token. Passports are free and can be obtained at any ANF office locations or by downloading & printing your own. Tracking available by geocaching.com

Silent Retreat, Ludlow
  "Silence In Community" may seem like an opposing concept, but sharing the intensity of this extended silent retreat with others will deepen and expand the experience. 17th annual Johnny Appleseed Festival

       The cornerstone of the event is the timber sports competition.  The Johnny Appleseed Festival has become one of the premier stops on the professional lumberjack circuit.   It draws many of the very best competitors from the U.S. and Canada.  

    Once again, this year the ever-popular Draft Horse and Antique Tractor Pulls will be showcased featuring a field of regional and local favorites.  Both of these events have been great fan favorites in the past and we are pleased to continue the tradition.

     In addition, we will be continuing our fun activities for children this year.  The Sawdust Pile Dive, Pumpkin Walk, face painting and more have proven to be immensely popular events designed especially for our youth and their families.  As always, we will have live music, apple pie baking contest, cornhole tournament, wine tasting at the Sheffield Firehall and our awesome fireworks show on Saturday night.  Finally, our many loyal vendors continue offering an array of great food as well as beautiful crafts and other items.

     Admission is free so bring the whole family and join us for tractors, draft horses, music, food, kids events, crafts and world class timber sports.  Watch for news and updates on our Facebook page.  Hope to see you there!

Youth Pheasant Hunt
Youth Pheasant Hunt.

Museum Explorers Activity
Golden Goddesses Inspired by Gustav Klimt Art Project

For this activity you will work to reveal a beautiful illustration of a mermaid highlighted with gold accents (see images - approximately 8" x 8"). This is a beginner-level art project that includes all of the materials you will need to complete it. Your kit also includes three additional cards to take home and create on your own.

This activity uses a sharp wooden stylus. Recommended for ages 7 and up. Allow approximately 2 hours to complete the project.

PA Lumber Museum Spooky Lantern Tours
Spooky Lantern Tours: Join us for a walk through the site by lantern light. Listen to ghost stories and trick-or-treat along the way.
