Hike 100 Miles to Commemorate 100 Years

Come join us in celebrating 100 years of growth and adventure on the Allegheny National Forest by hiking 100 miles. The Centennial Hiking Challenge will take you to over 100 miles of the best and most beautiful trails we offer. Whether you want to take a peaceful nature walk on a flat, established trail, or trek through a virtually untouched wilderness area far from the noise and congestion of town, these trails all have something unique to offer.

Log the date, trail name and miles hiked. When you complete 100 miles bring your hiking log to the Allegheny National Forest Visitors Bureau or any of the ANF Ranger offices to receive commemorative items, while supplies last. The hiking challenge ends on September 24, 2024.

ANF Centennial GeoTrail
28 ANF Centennial Geocaches will be placed throughout the Allegheny National Forest. (McKean, Warren, Elk, & Forest Counties) Find at least 20 cashes and write down the code word to receive and ANF Centennial Souvenir Token. Passports are free and can be obtained at any ANF office locations or by downloading & printing your own. Tracking available by geocaching.com

Valentine's Evening Walk
Looking to do something different for that special someone? Visit the park for a romantic walk out on the Kinzua Bridge. Dress according to the weather. Meet in front of the Visitor Center, west end of the building at 5:30 PM. Bring your camera! Stop in the Visitor Center Classroom for some conservation chat and a cup of hot chocolate! Snow Mobility Weekend
Visitors can ride their snowmobiles to the museum all weekend long!  Although the museum is not normally accessible by snowmobile, the Susquehannock State Forest will open a special route from Thomson Road, south of PA Route 6, through DCNR property.  Way-finding signs and instructions will be placed along the route.  Riders will be required to cross Route 6 to enter the museum property, so please use extreme caution.

Pancake Breakfast
As part of Snow-mobility Weekend you can eat like a lumberjack at the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum.  Enjoy all you can eat pancakes and sausage cooked by museum staff.  Children can listen to winter stories read by our museum educator and take part in making a winter craft.  Breakfast is $10 for adults, $6 for youth ages 4-11 years old.

Starry Sky Photography Class
Have you ever seen photos of the milky way with buildings, trees, or lakes in the foreground and thought you’d like to know how to do that? Join instructor Curt Weinhold at the museum to gain knowledge and learn about some of the essential tools for nightscape photographs. The class will cover the equipment you’ll need, locations and times to take photos along with composition and photo editing to help you capture some great starry sky images. Participants are encouraged to bring their cameras to the class but are not required. Free with museum admission.

Furbearers
Elk Country is home to many furbearers in Pennsylvania. Many trappers go out and collect these animals to help maintain healthy populations in our ecosystems. Without them populations can run wild! Come to the Elk Country Visitor Center and learn about the furbearers of PA as well as identifying skulls and furs of local animals.
