All ages are invited to participate in a Forest Ranger-led hike. During the hike participants will explore how to use their senses at night, even their vision. It is recommended that hikers wear appropriate hiking shoes and clothing. Prepare to be wet and/or dirty depending on the weather. Limited red-lens flash lights will be available, however, it is recommended that participants bring their own. Hikers are to meet at the Interpretive Trailhead at Hearts Content National Scenic Area off of Hearts Content Road no later than 8:20 p.m. Plan on being on the hike for approximately an hour. The Ruffed Grouse Society (RGS), Allegheny and Upland Bird Hunt Chapters, and the Mt. Jewett Sportsman’s Club are bringing this national program to Pennsylvania once again this summer. Training will be the afternoons of July 27-28 and August 24-25. Women and girls that finish true shooting course will be eligible for an upland bird hunt on September 8th. Course cost $125/woman. Fri 27th Sep | Jakes Rocks Trail Fest The third annual Jakes Rocks Trail Fest will be held on Friday, September 27th and Saturday, September 28th at two of the Allegheny National Forest's recreation sites: Kinzua Beach and the Trails at Jakes Rocks. During this time, there will be limitations one the use of the Trails and Jakes Rocks. Portions of the trails will be closed to public use on Friday, September 27th, 2019, for an Enduro race from 2 to 5 p.m. Although the event is still going on through Saturday, all trails will be open. Parking at the Trails at Jakes Rocks trailhead will also be closed to non-event public during the two-day event. Parking at the two overlooks will remain open. Participants are asked to park at the Kinzua Beach parking area and ride the provided shuttle bus to the trail head. The buses will be operating on a continuous basis.
