Marilla Reservoir

Family Recreation at its Finest

Hiking, Fishing, Canoeing

Marilla Reservoir - Bradford, PALocated along Rt. 346, approximately 12 miles west of the City of Bradford, Marilla Reservoir was constructed in 1898.

The Bradford City Water Authority owns and operates this facility. Primary focus of stewardship of this location is maintaining the continuing water producing capability of the watershed. Secondary focus is management of the watershed’s vast hardwood forest and preservation of fish and wildlife habitat. Third, is to allow limited shared use of the watershed for recreational activity.

Recreation at Marilla Reservoir
Shared use of the watershed for recreational activity provides a pristine location for fishing, or canoeing. The Marilla Reservoir is available for public fishing under a cooperative program with the Pennsylvania Fish Commission.

Periodic trout stocking occurs to provide year-around fishing enjoyment. Ice fishing is a favorite in this scenic location.

Trail construction started by the Tuna Valley Trail Association in 2003 resulted in a walking loop around the Reservoir and a covered wooden bridge.

Indian Pipe Trail
Located across from the Marillia Reservoir, is the trailhead to The Indian Pipe Trail. This 7.4-mile multi-use, non-motorized trail crosses a 4,000-acre tract of Allegheny Northern Hardwood Forest providing a link to the Allegany State Park in New York.

Perfect for biking, or cross-country skiing this trail provides glimpses of a multitude of flora and fauna including the rare Indian Pipe Flower (Monotropa Uniflora) after which the trail is named. Also know as “American Iceplant” or “Ghost Flower” it grows to only 3-4 inches in height.

Hunting on the watershed is not only permitted, but is encouraged. Ample populations of deer, turkey, and a variety of small game inhabit the watershed. The Bradford Watershed Authority is a partner in the Kinzua Quality Deer Cooperative research area, working to provide expanded information on white tail deer and forest management.
